Born and raised in Detroit, Mich., Malone was always encouraged to pursue her interests and develop new skills by her mother, who was a teacher and saw to it that she had piano and violin lessons. Dot’s love of music led to elementary and high school chorus and orchestra performances.
After graduating from college, she moved to New York to pursue life’s adventure. That pursuit led her to journey to Hawaii, which proved to be an extraordinary training ground. Malone linked with local artists and performed concerts and background studio work on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii.
From there it was back to New York where the songstress got caught up in the "rat race" and the need to make a living. Malone took a job in the corporate world and lost sight of her dream temporarily. As she became more involved in her work-a-day life, she began to realize something was missing. She needed to sing! Changes had to be made! She began studying again, this time with jazz pianist and vocal coach, Hal Schaefer, and voice teacher, David Collyer. With the encouragement of these seasoned professionals, she began performing again – this time performing at New York venues like Lola’s, Danny’s Skylight Room, and the Supper Club.
During her career, Malone has opened for soprano saxophonist and recording artist Marion Meadows; and performed the role of Sweet Georgia Brown in an off-Broadway gospel musical comedy titled "Sweet Daddy and Amazing Grace." In Atlantic City, she has appeared at the Copa Lounge; Sands Hotel and Casino; TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort; Viva’s Lounge; Trump Marina Casino Resort; and on the March of Dimes Telethon (televised at Showboat Hotel & Casino). The vocalist recently completed a four-month tour to Morocco, and has also performed in five tours toJapan. She also appeared as a delegate from Djibouti attending a General Assembly meeting, in the movie, "The Interpreter," starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, which was directed by Sydney Pollack and shot on location at the United Nations in New York.
With a voice that conjures up an image of Minnie Riperton and Natalie Cole combined, Dot Malone sings jazz and R&B with a superstar flair!
