Cobras to honor Finney for 40 years of service
The Montclair Cobras Junior Football Program will honor its president and coach, Howard Finney, for his 40 years of mentoring young men and developing youth football in the township during a celebration in November.
The reception will take place at the Valley Regency, 1129 Valley Road in Clifton, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. Cost per ticket is $50 for a buffet-style dinner.
Guest speakers, a champagne toast and a 50/50 raffle with proceeds going to the Cobras will also take place during the celebration.

Jr. Mounties hockey programs available
Ice hockey programs for the Jr. Mounties are in full swing at the Montclair Clary Anderson Arena.
Open to Montclair residents ages 7 to 14, Jr. Mountie programs range from Learn to Play for its younger skaters to the middle school team. Newcomers are welcome and the Jr. Mounties can provide equipment. For more information, call the arena at 973-744-6088.
MHS football’s ‘Celebration of Champions’
The Montclair High football team will commemorate its storied history during its "Celebration of Champions," a two-day event on Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8.

On Nov. 7, the team will host a "Champions Reception," during which the 22 Mountie State championship teams will be honored. The reception will take a place at the newly renovated Furlong Field House.
On Nov. 8, before MHS’ 1 p.m. home game against Hackensack on Woodman Field, a "Mountie Tailgate" will take place in the parking lot behind the George Inness Annex on North Fullerton Avenue. During halftime, the 22 championship teams will be honored again and State championship flags will be unveiled.
‘Your Kid and Sports’ program at Yogi Museum
The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center will host the latest in its series of in-depth programs, "Your Kid and Sports: What Every Parent Should Know" tonight at 7:30 p.m. With a panel of accomplished coaches and athletes, the program will help parents measure their child’s athletic ceiling and delve into myriad youth and high school sports issues.
The panelists include Bruce Harper, former NY Jets standout and current president of Heroes & Cool Kids; Fred Hill, the longtime Rutgers baseball coach; Tara Rienecker, former UConn soccer player and current Montclair State University coordinator of development of student athletes; and Mike Sheppard Jr., Seton Hall Prep baseball coach.
The program moderator is John McCarthy, an award-winning teacher and coach and cofounder of the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center’s Coaching Institute.
