Flu clinics scheduled

The Montclair Health Department will be offering the influenza vaccine residents who are 18 years of age and older. Women who are pregnant during the influenza season must have a doctor’s note to be inoculated.

Any person 65 and older with Medicare Part B being their primary insurance will receive both flu and pneumonia vaccines for free.

If you are 65 and older and have HMO insurance, you will have to pay the fee of $20 and you will have to submit to your own insurance. Medicare is the only insurance the Health Department accepts for payment.

The pneumonia vaccine will be offered for $30. Usually, one dose of Pneumovax is needed.
A second dose is recommended for people aged 65 and older who got their first dose when they were under 65 and if five or more years have passed since that dose.

Also, a second dose is recommended for people with some chronic conditions. Check with your physician if you are unsure as to whether to get the vaccine.

The vaccines are available today, Thursday, Oct. 16, at First Montclair House, 56 Walnut St., from 9 to 11 a.m., and at Pine Ridge Senior Center, 60 Glenridge Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Vaccines are also available on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Montclair Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Ave, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at South End Gardens, 340 Orange Road, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call the Montclair Health Department at 973-509-4970.
