MHS football’s ‘Celebration of Champions’
The Montclair High football team will commemorate its storied history during its "Celebration of Champions," a two-day event on Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8.
All former Mounties and Montclair High football fans are encouraged to attend the weekend’s events. The Mounties urge all those interested in attending to RSVP by Saturday, Oct. 25.
On Nov. 7, the team will host a "Champions Reception," during which the 22 Mountie State championship teams will be honored. A limited number of spaces are available for the reception. Those planning to attend the Nov. 7 portion of the weekend should RSVP as soon as possible.
On Nov. 8, before MHS’ 1 p.m. home game against Hackensack, a "Mountie Tailgate" will take place near the newly renovated Robert "Fuzzy" Furlong Field House. During halftime, the 22 championship teams will be honored again and State championship flags will be unveiled.
AAU baseball tryouts
The Republic Records Yankees Baseball Club will be holding tryouts during the autumn and winter for the spring 2009 season of its AAU house league and travel teams.
For boys ages 6 through 9, the club fields two divisions, according to skill and age, for its house league. The Yankees will also field three travel teams: 8U, 8U (AA) and 9U. Tryouts begin the week of Nov. 17 and continue during the weeks of Dec. 8 and Dec. 15. The final tryout will take place in 2009 during the week of Jan. 5. All interested players must attend one tryout.

Montclair Baseball Club tryouts offered
Later this month, the Montclair Baseball Club (MBC) will conduct tryouts for the upcoming spring/summer travel season for its five teams.
Teams are formed according to age. A player’s age as of May 1, 2009, will determine which team they are eligible for. For example: If a child is 11 years old on May 1, 2009, they are eligible for the U11 team. Tryouts will be held for all teams on Saturday, Oct. 18, Sunday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 25 (rain date: Sunday, Oct. 26).
U9 and U10 will tryout from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Edgmont Park. U11 will follow at Edgemont from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
U12 will tryout from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Nishuane Park. U13 and U14 will follow at Nishuane from 3 to 4:45 p.m.
