Bring integrity back to Washington

(by ROLAND STRATEN - October 09, 2008)

While I cannot disagree with the scathing attack on those in Washington in last week’s full-page editorial, I disagree that the majority of the blame goes to the Republican Party and the Bush administration. There is plenty of blame to go around to those in both parties who have voted against the interests of people by creating the current credit crisis, out-of-control spending, skyrocketing taxes, enormous national debt and $4 a gallon gasoline.

The editorial presented many arguments against George Bush and recommended voting for new blood in Washington.

It will be very interesting to see if The Montclair Times uses some of the same arguments when it makes its recommendation for the 8th Congressional District. Will they recommend the congressman who was in Washington while this entire mess was created under both the Bush and Clinton administrations? Will they support someone who voted for the Iraq war, who voted against reasonable solutions to the energy crisis, who voted to increase our taxes, who discouraged regulations that would have prevented the downfall of Fannie Mae, and who perpetuated the deficit by voting for every spending bill he could?

Or will they recommend changing to a Montclair resident who has not been involved in creating this mess, but has the knowledge, judgment and commitment to stop the excesses by bringing some integrity back to Washington?
