Marilyn Towner Dodd
Marilyn "Lynn" Towner Dodd, 71, of the Cypress of Charlotte, died on Monday, Sept. 29, in the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., in St. James Episcopal Church, 581 Valley Road, Montclair.
Mrs. Dodd was a lifelong resident of Montclair until she moved to North Carolina in 2006. She graduated from The Kimberley School and attended Smith College.
Over the years, she was actively involved in The Montclair Kimberley Academy events and fundraisers, the Smith College Club of Montclair, the Garden Club of Montclair, the United Way of North Essex, and held many positions of responsibility with The Junior League of Montclair Newark.
Mrs. Dodd was presented a Distinguished Service Award by the Montclair Red Cross in 2004, and in 1998 the Junior League of Montclair Newark recognized her achievements with their Sustainer of the Year award. She also was chair of the Montclair Citadel of the Salvation Army, a trustee of the Mental Health Resource Center, and served as a member of the Van Vleck Board of Management.
She was predeceased by her parents, Reginald F. Towner and Ruth Dear Towner; and her brother, Reginald Towner. She is survived by her children, William H. Dodd Jr. and his wife Keva, Stephen T. Dodd and his wife Michelle, Peter H. Dodd and his wife Julie, and Deborah Dodd Schacht and her husband Paul; and eight grandchildren.
