Dorothy K. Tarrant


Dorothy K. Tarrant (née Kuusela), 84, of Montclair, died suddenly on Friday, Sept. 26, at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m., in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, 67 Church St.

Mrs. Tarrant was born in New York City, and lived in Westport, Conn., before moving to Montclair in 2003.

She served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1946 as a pharmacist’s mate. She was executive director of Westport Community Council, a social services agency, prior to retiring about 20 years ago. In Montclair, she joined the Montclair Women’s Club.

Mrs. Tarrant was an avid reader and tennis player. She and her husband co-authored a book, "A Community of Artists," which chronicled the painters, illustrators, sculptors and cartoonists of Westport and Weston Connecticut from 1900 to 1985.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Tarrant Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Tarrant; and her son, John Tarrant III. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Lytle; son-in-law John Lytle; a brother, Richard Kuusela; and two grandchildren, Bonnie and Jade Lytle.
