Mr. Burnett was a retired engineer. Remaining active until weeks before his death, he enjoyed shopping for his supplies on his electric scooter, playing bridge, and handicapping horses at the racetrack.

Mr. Burnett was predeceased in 2003 by his wife of 70 years, Florence; and his great-granddaughter, Emily Burnett. He is survived by his three sons, Guy Burnett; Paul Burnett, and Dr. Bill Burnett; his grandchildren, Guy Burnett, Dale Burnett, Tracy Burnett, and Kimberly Burnett. He was the great-grandfather of Kristen Mango, Guy Dustin Burnett, and Sandra Horton.

A celebration of his life will be private and will be held in October.
