Suspects in bank heist, stabbing are busted, cops say

(by Dan Prochilo - October 01, 2008)

The two people who police believe to be responsible for a bank robbery and a stabbing that both occurred in Montclair on Sept. 14 were apprehended earlier this week.

Shaneefah Williams, 25, of Newark, who was wanted by the Montclair police in connection with the robbery of the Commerce Bank branch on Bloomfield Avenue, surrendered to police in Newark this past Monday afternoon, Sept. 29, according to Lt. James Carlucci of the Montclair Police Department.

Her bail was set at $200,000 bond or $20,000 in cash, and she was being transferred to the Essex County Jail in Newark on Wednesday.

According to police, Williams entered the bank and passed a note to one of the tellers demanding money and threatening that she had a bomb. She stole an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing, police indicated.

The morning after Williams turned herself in, Montclair and East Orange authorities arrested Tourrie Moses, the suspect in the stabbing of a 35-year-old man from Montclair, which also took place Sept. 14, Carlucci stated.

Moses, 18, of Montclair, was taken into custody at an apartment building on South Harrison Street in East Orange, Carlucci stated. His bail was set at $100,000 bond or $10,000 in cash. He likewise was taken to the Essex County Jail on Wednesday.

Police said Moses got into an argument with the victim and stabbed him in the abdomen at just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 14 near the intersection of Orange Road and Cedar Avenue. Moses was charged with aggravated assault and weapons-possession offenses.

The victim had surgery and was expected to fully recover from the attack, according to authorities.
