Essex County U19 Rugby Club seeks members
The Essex County U19 Rugby Club is seeking new members for the spring 2009 season.
The club will have practices this autumn to introduce the game to new players and prepare for the spring season. At the practices, players will learn rugby skills and rules with light contact.
Practices will take place on Saturday mornings, followed by Montclair Rugby Club matches where prospective players can watch the game at a high level. The club is open to all high-school-age males from freshman through senior year, regardless of the school they attend. No experience is necessary.
If prospective players cannot attend the autumn practices, they are still encouraged to join. For more information, call 973-239-1616 during evenings.
Meet Shamsky at Yogi Museum
Former New York Met Art Shamsky will discuss baseball and sign his book, "The Magnificent Seasons," at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Shamsky had an illustrious 13-year career in Major League Baseball, highlighted by his key contributions to the 1969 "Miracle Mets." During that unforgettable championship season, Shamsky batted .300 and led the Mets in the playoffs by batting .537 vs. the Atlanta Braves.
Since his retirement from baseball, Shamsky has worked in different endeavors and recently authored "The Magnificent Seasons," a book about the Mets, Jets, and Knicks all winning championships, ironically all for the first time, in 1969 and 1970. The book not only follows the exploits of the three teams, but the effect all the teams had on the people of New York City and the country at a time that so much turmoil affected society.
To RSVP, call the museum at 973-655-6891.
