"Tarantella Under the Stars!" is a free celebration of traditional Italian dance and music for lovers of Italian traditions, at 7 p.m., in Kips Castle Park, 22 Crestmont Road. The Tarantella is the official dance of Italy. Legend has it that it was performed in reaction to the bite of a spider. D’Italia Programs’ Coro d’Italia will dance several versions of this dance, from ancient ritual to varieties from around Southern Italy and Sicily, with tambourine drumming and live music. YMCA Fitness Arcade: YMCA members ages 6 and up can enjoy interactive video games and get exercise at the same time in the new Fitness Arcade, on the second floor of the main branch, 25 Park St. Activities include Dance, Dance Revolution, in which children select music and follow the latest dance moves using foot pads, accompanied by flashing lights, funky beats and competitive scoring; Trazer, an interactive virtual reality game in which players wearing laser beacons test their agility and motor skills against their opponent on a video screen; and Sportswall, an interactive wall with 21 touch-sensitive, flashing targets, score boards and a count-down timer. Games can be played at different levels to develop hand-eye coordination, speed, agility and overall fitness.
