The Henderson family, which has deep roots in Montclair, and friends will kick off a fund-raising photo shoot this Saturday to raise awareness about cancer and to raise money for cancer survivor Cathy Henderson.
This Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m., family members, friends and supporters will gather in the Montclair High School amphitheater, on the corner of Park and Chestnut streets, for "Standing For Cathy and Against Cancer."
All participants will be photographed in a group shot, titled the "Montclair Village Photo," in support of Cathy. Participants should wear white clothing for the picture.
Registration for the photo begins at 9:30 a.m. in the amphitheater and the photograph will be taken at 11 a.m.
The donation to participate in the "Montclair Village Photo" is $25 per person and $10 for each additional person of the same household. Participants must RSVP to standingforcathy@yahoo.com.
To make a donation, mail a check, made payable to Garry Henderson, 95 Park St., Montclair, NJ 07042.
The photographs will be available to participants on July 31 via www.indigitalphotographicservices.com.
In case of rain, the event will be relocated to Clary Anderson Arena on Chestnut Street, with the same times for registration and the photo.
A year ago this weekend, Cathy was diagnosed with cancer. According to a release, Cathy previously had been a vibrant 50-year-old who flourished after surviving a bout with breast cancer in 1998. Her health appeared to be completely restored until July 2007, when she was suddenly stricken with brain, kidney, lung, liver and spinal cancer. Her spinal lesions have completely paralyzed her from the waist down.
Penny Corum and Garry Henderson, Cathy’s sister and brother, stated, "We all know someone who has cancer. With our family base and so many friends and family in Montclair, we thought it would be the ideal place for the Montclair Village Photo to inspire not only Cathy, but others whose lives have been impacted in some way by cancer."
People can send cards to Cathy Henderson, who is in Our Lady Residence, 1100 Clematis Ave., Pleasantville, NJ 08232.
